Building on the joy and celebration of last year, this year's retreat invites us into a deeper exploration of who we are in Christ and the freedom that comes from being fully known and fully loved by Him.
True freedom begins not in perfecting ourselves, but in understanding who we are in Christ. In Christ, we journey together embracing our common humanity - our stories, our struggles, our joys, our longing to be accepted and belong. If we stop isolating ourselves and hiding and start showing up honestly and authentically, something holy happens: our true self in real community takes root and grows. "We see ourselves and our sisters become free from our false selves to become our true selves in Christ, able to love God, ourselves and others in freedom and in truth" (Vision for Hope Sisters becoming Emotionally Healthy Women).
This year, we want to make space (again) for our sisters to lay down the weight of comparison, to receive ourselves with the same grace God so readily offers us, and to experience the deep, organic connection that grows when we are simply (and bravely) being our true selves together.
Grounded in the values of "authenticity" and "community" that Hope Church NYC upholds, we'll explore what it looks like to be our true selves, not who we think or others think we should be. Our true selves are who God made us to be and worth celebrating!
